Maine Design Company (MDC) has been serving the marine industry since 1999, performing marine surveys for sail and power boats, and providing engineering and design consulting, throughout Maine, New England and beyond.

As degreed engineers, experienced mariners, and boatbuilders, MDC has the expertise to provide in-depth understanding and analysis of the complex marine problems we encounter in conducting marine surveys. We also provide technical advice and engineering support for boat owners, builders, service yards, attorneys and insurance companies.

Our services and experience range from simple pre-purchase surveys of custom- or production-built composite power and sailing yachts, to condition and value surveys of wooden sailing vessels, from Concordia yawls to a 650-ton barquentine. MDC boat surveyors performed damage surveys on thousands of boats, including a fleet of charter yachts in the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

We also specialize in a variety of non-destructive testing services including ultrasonic flaw detection and thermal imaging, and provide customized engineering, project management, owner’s representation, and professional witness services.
