Maine Design Company (MDC) offers a range of survey services to boat owners, builders, repairers, service yards, and insurance companies worldwide. We inspect vessels (both sail and power) of almost all hull materials, the only exception is ferrocement. Fiberglass is by far the most common material we see, wood is a close second.

We are often asked if we survey wood boats.  The answer is a resounding YES!  We love wood boats! They are what we grew up sailing and building. MDC is often called on by builders and insurance companies as one of the predominant surveyors of wood vessels in North America.  In addition to more more modern vessels, MDC is perfectly comfortable surveying a 20-foot cold-molded center console, a Concordia yawl, a 650-ton plank-on-frame barquentine or anything in between.
